School bus driver still recovering from chain reaction crash
ATLANTA — A bus driver is still recovering at Grady Memorial Hospital from a chain reaction crash on Interstate 20 over the weekend.
Six Burke County Middle School buses were heading from Waynesboro to Six Flags Over Georgia late Saturday morning when they wrecked near mile marker 97 in Newton County. One bus rear-ended another as they were all slowing down for a construction zone. That started a domino effect. A car was also involved in the crash.
Sixty-one students were treated for minor injuries. The only person to require an overnight hospital stay was bus driver Angela Anthony. She had to be airlifted to Grady. Her family told 11Alive News her condition is improving.
The students never made it to the theme park. The trip was supposed to be a reward for their performance on the CRCTs.
