Atascocita AMBUS Deployed – Firefighters battle early morning fire at Atascocita apartment complex

Firefighters from the Atascocita Volunteer Fire Department, as well as several other northeast area fire departments, responded to an early morning blaze at the Sunrise at Atascocita apartment complex.

Nearly 100 responders battled the four-alarm fire that displaced dozens of residents.

According to preliminary information from the Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office, the fire is believed to have been started by a lightning strike.

The structure that was impacted has 24 units. However, as a precaution, the adjacent structures were also evacuated.

The American Red Cross has been dispatched and AVFD transported 17 adults and five children to the Atascocita United Methodist Church on their AMBUS where the Red Cross will be setting up a temporary shelter.

FM 1960 was been closed in both directions but reopened.

One firefighter was injured as the result of falling debris and was transported to Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital in stable condition as a precaution. In addition, one resident was also transported to Northeast Hospital.
