AtlantiCare and Shark River Hills MABs respond to the aftermath of the June 30, 2012 South Jersey Severe Storms
AtlantiCare and Shark River Hills EMS deploy their MABs to assist in the aftermath of the destructive June 30, 2012 South Jersey Severe Storm that left the majority of Atlantic county without power during a record breaking heat wave.
The recently delivered AtlantiCare MAB was instrumental on June 30th to serve as a cooling center and evaluation point for residents of an assisted living facility that required the evacuation of some residents due to the increasing extreme heat conditions within the facility. The Shark River Hill’s MAB responded to the assisted living facility to assist. In total, Shark River Hills transported 19 humans, one canine, and two felines along with resident belongings to include walkers, luggage, and bedding.
As the power outage and heat wave continued on for days, Atlantic County OEM opened a point of distribution (POD) for water and ice to residents affected by this disastrous storm. In addition to Atlantic County and local OEM, Camden County sent a task force to assist with the POD. AtlantiCare’s MAB was deployed to the POD for two days to provide a cooling station for the personnel working in extreme heat conditions.
