Breaking News: Houston MAB #1 Transports Students from School Bus Accident (Follow Link to Video)
HUFFMAN, Texas – A driver was flown to a hospital after his pickup truck collided head-on with a school bus.
The collision happened on F.M. 2100 near East F.M. 1960 in Huffman about 4:20 p.m. The driver of the pickup truck swerved, crossed the center lane and slammed head on into the stopped school bus.
Fourth grader Brianna Yeager had just stepped off the bus seconds before the crash.
“When I got off the bus I was at the white line and I just heard ‘kaboom,’” she said.
At just a few feet away, Brianna’s father, Ron Yeager, heard the crash from their home.
“I was like, that’s not good. I looked out the window and I seen her standing there shaking,” Ron Yeager said.
Brianna wasn’t hurt, but many of her classmates on the bus were.
“My wife called and said the bus had been in an accident,” Travis Reagan said.
Reagan was at work in Houston when he got the call. His two sons were on the bus. Colin, 7, was fine, but 12-year-old Dylan was being checked for broken bones.
“His shoulder, elbow and his leg was hurt,” Reagan said.
A Huffman Independent School District representative said several students on board suffered minor injuries. In all, 10 students were taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure. All were treated and released.
A second school bus was brought in to take the uninjured students home.
The driver of the pickup truck was taken by helicopter to Memorial Hermann Hospital. His condition was not released.
Harris County sheriff’s deputies said they found seizure medication in the pickup truck and they are looking into the possibility that the driver suffered a seizure.
The cause of the collision is under investigation.
