Brunswick County MAB Responds to School bus-SUV Crash – Injures 10, Including 8 students

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A traffic accident involving a Brunswick County school bus has sent 10 people to the hospital.

Brunswick County Schools spokeswoman Jessica Swencki says the bus from South Brunswick High School and South Brunswick Middle School was involved in the accident with a car this afternoon at NC 211 and Midway Road.

The bus got into an accident with a Subaru. Brunswick County Emergency Services Director Brian Watts says EMS took the driver of that car to New Hanover Regional Medical Center with potentially life-threatening injuries. He says eight students were taken to Dosher Memorial Hospital in Southport with minor injuries, while the bus driver was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center for a trauma check.

“According to EMS officials, the students and driver do not appear to have serious injuries and are being transported as a precaution,” Brunswick County Schools Superintendent Edward Pruden said in a news release.

All remaining students were taken back to South Brunswick High School for parent pick-up.

No word if either driver may face charges in the crash.
