City of Yonkers unveils Major Emergency Transportation Unit
YONKERS – The City of Yonkers has unveiled its new Major Emergency Transportation Unit, a bus that can function as an ambulance, cooling center, an emergency room and more, if needed.
The bus has the capability of transporting 15 stretchered patients or 20 patients in a seated position.
While Yonkers police will have the main responsibility for using the unit, Commissioner Charles Gardner says the bus can be utilized by law enforcement, fire personnel, emergency medical service personnel or Office of Emergency Management workers.
