Gwinnett MAB-7 Responds Twice 9/25/2013

The Gwinnett County GA MAB unit was very busy yesterday responding to a gas leak with 15 patients being treated and then later in the afternoon the unit responded to a house fire to rehab firemen.

Firefighters responded to a report of a sick person call in an office building. Crews found multiple patients on arrival with minor medical complaints due to an unknown odor inside the business. Additional units along with MAB-7 and Hazmat-20 were requested to assess patients and determine the source of the odor. The source was found to be a mixture of fumes from a carpet cleaning compound and sterno fuel cans. The carpets were cleaned Tuesday evening and a catering company used sterno cans to warm food at a catered event Wednesday afternoon. The combination of fumes sickened a number of office employees. Medical complaints included nausea, eye irritation and headache.

The following is a breakdown of the patients who were evaluated: 16 – Total patients, 15 – Patients released at the scene, 1 – Patient transported to hospital
