LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Louisville Metro Police say a dozen summer camp children were injured after a bus crash.
The children are from Watterson Elementary’s Child Enrichment Program and were on their way to a field trip at a local bowling alley.
The YMCA President says the bus had the green light, but a car jumped the red light and crashed into the front of the bus. It happened around 11:30 Wednesday morning in Buechel.
There were 31 children on the bus and three staff members, but 12 children, ages 5-8, were taken to Kosair Children’s Hospital.
“I spoke to the medical folks,” said Steve Tarver, the YMCA President and CEO. “They describe everything as non-emergency, very precautionary in nature, 12 children that were transported on their way to Kosair for precautionary measures.”
A second bus was also headed to the field trip and stopped after the crash to help with the investigation.
