S.A.F.D. Adds Giant Ambulance to Fleet

One vehicle that is equivalent to 10 ambulances. That’s how the San Antonio Fire Department describes its new ambus.

The giant ambulance is designed to transport patients from mass casualty events or situations that require multiple patients to be moved.

The ambus is based in San Antonio, but area first responders can access it by simply making a phone call.

Brett Joiner with S.A.F.D. said, “They would get in contact with our dispatch and say another ambulance has been requested, do you have one from your area that can go and then we would man it up and take off.”

Officials tell us a grant paid for the ambus.

The San Antonio Fire Department’s EMS division will be responsible for manning it.
